$200 store credit towards purchase of Samsung's latest

Wireless carriers like AT&T realize that Samsung’s latest flagship phones are among the best sellers on the market, and as such the company has now offered a limited time trade-in deal set to expire at the end of the month.

From today, AT&T customers looking to trade in their old smartphones and upgrade to a new Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ are being offered company credit towards the purchase of either device through an AT&T Next installment plan or a full, off-contract buy. Interested customers can mail in their eligible devices or bring them to a local AT&T retail store and will receive a promotional card or in-store credit to be used toward one of the Galaxy S8 devices in stock.

According to the fine print, the carrier will give customers $200 of trade-in credit as long as they hand in a working device with a trade-in value of at least $20 that meets the AT&T Trade-In Program requirements. There is also a limitation of one trade-in per purchase. The company says this is not an early upgrade program and does not relieve any contract obligations or extend any existing warranties.

AT&T currently offers Galaxy S8 in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, and Arctic Silver for $749 off-contract, or in monthly instalments ($25 per month for 30 months, or $31.25 per month for 24 months).

The company also offers the Galaxy S8+ in the same color options for $849 off-contract, or in monthly instalments ($28.34 per month for 30 months, or $35.42 per month for 24 months).

Galaxy S8+ expected to outsell Galaxy S8 by less than eight percent

Samsung’s latest Galaxy series smartphones hit the markets last month and have been enjoying higher than expected sales in most pkaces. This year, it appears customers are placing trust that the company will continue a steady stream of quality assurance checks and prevent another Note 7 situation. The latest report from The Korea Herald indicates that Samsung is on track to sell around 50.4 million units in total, with the Galaxy S8+ outperforming the Galaxy S8 by around 7.8 percent because of a preference for the larger display panel.

In other news, it also appears that the Korea-based smartphone giant is using two different storage chips in the Galaxy S8 and S8+, where the standard model uses UFS 2.0 and the larger device uses UFS 2.1. For customers keen on performance in every aspect of their mobile device, the Galaxy S8+ appears to offer a slight edge in storage performance even though both devices on AT&T are otherwise feature identical.
