According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a 6.1 inch LCD iPhone model is expected to appear this fall in five colours: gray, white, blue, red, and orange, reports 9to5Mac. Similar to the colorful approach that Apple took with the iPhone 5c, it will be a relatively affordable companion to a 6.5 inch OLED model, pricing each model at approximately $700 and $1,000, respectively. The higher end option will come in black, white, and gold. The gold is expected to be the very same leaked by the FCC earlier this year.
The move is rather clever. Rather than having to spend a fortune in research and development all Apple has to do is change the colour of the case. However it is a moot point if this is going to pay off. Apple's previous cunning plan of releasing an iPhone which was essentially twice the price of an ordinary one didn't really work. Sooner or later even Apple fanboys are going to want some technology for their bucks.
