Lenovo has announced it will cut 2,500 jobs, or 11 percent of its workforce worldwide, in Q1 2009.

The outfit hopes to save $300 million a year as a result of its latest restructuring plan. Two weeks ago reports surfaced that Lenovo will cut 200 jobs at its Beijing HQ, including 10 high ranking execs.

The cuts are expected to affect every business unit, and Lenovo's Greater China and Asia - Pacific operations are to be merged with its Russia operation and form a single unit. Lenovo claims 2009 will be a tough year for all PC vendors, and many have already announced serious cuts in workforce and planned investments.
