Forget 5G, 6G to arrive in 2030

See through walls – it's kind of magic

Merouane Debba, director of the mathematical and algorithmic sciences lab, Huawei said the company is aiming to introduce 5G plus in 2028 and 6G in 2030.

Speaking at an event in Paris, he said that communication will be possible between computers and things and Huawei is developing architectures beyond 5G. “We're developing 5G plus which will be ready in 2028 but by 2030 we'll build 6G.”

The peak data rate will be one terabyte. the proximity margin in the future will be 10 centimetres and Huawei is aiming for latency at 0.1 milliseconds. That, naturally will increase the number of data generated by the internet of everything.

Banks and transportation applications require as short latency as possible – 5G, he said, will reduce latency to one millisecond. He said that telecoms is not only for communication of information but sensing the world around you and connecting every dot on the earth in a 3D way.

Machines with be able to see and hear. Devices can sense more details, for example with vision, than humans. Sensors will cover so many more fields that they will affect maths, chemistry and physics, biology and health.

Through a mobile phone you'll be able to see through walls, be able to sense and analyse food, vehicles and infrastructure. As 5G comes it will use extraordinary spectra. Today's waves will turn to THz and have visibility of the environment and see changes around you.

Mathematic tools, he said, can let you extract a certain meaning from data, with compressed sensing as well as categorisation methods have been deployed. Huawei is working with senior mathematicians, he said.

AI uses massive amounts of data to develop machine learning tools Huawei claims it can use its Ascend series of chips to cover all computing devices from earphones through desktops up to servers.Holoportation and edge tech. transports and flying plus industrial AI and robotics will all generate a huge number of data.

Latency for autodriving and banks must be less than one millisecond on demand. There will need to be transmission not only of data but of meaning, he said. We need to use intelligent protocols to do that. There will be cloud AI, Edge AI, Site AI and Terminal AI. We have some paradigms we can apply for these.
