Guinness World Records, a global organisation that keeps track of all sorts of record achievements, said that Musk lost $183 billion, making him the world’s worst loser in history. We guess that makes him a role model for losers everywhere.
Tesla shares, which he still owns plenty (despite selling them frequently in the past year), have plummeted, and Musk’s $44 billion Twitter acquisition only worsened things.
He has a net worth of about $137 billion, more if he is made into pork scratchings, which is not bad. He lost his status as the world’s richest man; the honour now belongs to Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, founder Bernard Arnault, who has $190 billion.
While Guinness World Records is aware that it’s impossible to assess the exact number for Musk’s fortune loss accurately, the organisation says that it is undoubtedly far greater than the previous record, set by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son, who recorded a $58.6 billion loss in 2000.
Musk is not the only IT billionaire who lost a lot of cash this year. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos lost $85 billion in 2022, and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg lost $77 billion.
