Elon Musk’s anti-trickle down charity chunter

Billionaire blasts Bezos’ ex for ‘dooming’ the West!

Elon [look at me] Musk, the bloke with more dosh than you can shake a stick at, has gone off on one about wealthy ladies splashing their cash on charities, claiming they’re the downfall of the West.

And who’s in his line of fire? None other than MacKenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos’ ex, who’s been dishing out her fortune like there’s no tomorrow.

Despite Musk’s moaning, Scott’s not holding back the purse strings. She’s just announced a whopping donation of €592 million (that’s $640 million, but who’s counting?) to 361 lucky organisations. That’s more than double the €231 million she promised last year.

Lever for change, the lot helping Scott with her giveaway says 279 groups will bag €1.85 million each, while the rest will pocket a cool €925,000. They had a plan for 250 handouts, but Scott’s generosity knows no bounds, and they’ve upped the ante.

Musk’s been throwing shade at Scott’s giving spree for weeks, even suggesting that ‘super rich ex-wives with a grudge’ should be blamed for the end of Western civilisation. This would not be the same as those male billionaires who seem close enough to Russian dictators to try and stop a war in their favour.

What appears to have got Musk’s goat is that he’s not a fan of Scott spending all this cash on diversity and equality malarkey, calling it outright racism.

This isn’t the first time Musk has criticised Scott for her billions in charity. Last May, he complained that his firms were getting the cold shoulder from the Democrats because Scott was chucking money at ‘PACs posing as charities’.

Scott ignores Musk’s rants and focuses instead on the good her dosh is doing. From a pool of over 6,000 hopefuls, 361 groups have been picked to be agents of change, supporting everything from women’s health to minority groups.

Megan Peterson, the boss of Gender Justice, is over the moon with Scott’s €1.85 million gift, saying it’ll help them smash barriers to gender equality.

Scott is not one for strings-attached giving. Last year, she said she’d given nearly €1.85 billion to 343 groups fighting for the underdog.

So much for the concept of having the wealth of wealthy people at the top trickling down to those who need it.
