Samsung's slight lead in semiconductor quarterly market revenue is as surprising as it may seem, given that for the past few months, the outfit has been quieter than a mouse that has nested on a very fat cat.
The firm appears to have secured higher revenue than competitors like TSMC and Intel. This revelation comes from industry analyst Dan Nystedt, who has compiled the figures for Q2 2024 revenue for mainstream semiconductor companies.
According to his data, Samsung's chip business generated $20.84 billion in quarterly revenue, a figure converted from the Korean won since Samsung reported it in the firm's native language.
TSMC reported $20.82 billion, marking a slight difference from Samsung, which is negligible in the grand scheme. However, considering that the Korean giant did take an edge here, it becomes necessary to highlight this achievement.
Finally, Intel's chip division generated $12.83 billion in Q2 2024, significantly less than its counterparts' earnings.
To be fair though, if Nystedt is correct, Samsung has not out produced TSMC, it has made more money from what it made.
Nystedt said: “Samsung benefited from a rebound in the global memory chip market, as rising prices for DRAM and NAND memory chips boosted revenue. TSMC’s bread and butter is logic chips, not memory.
