Might have a new naming scheme

AMD has announced that its highly anticipated next-generation "Radeon" RDNA 4 GPUs will be launched in early 2025.

During its Q3 2024 earnings call, AMD's CEO confirmed the transition to the new Radeon GPU family, expected to be called the Radeon RX 8000 series. However, a new naming scheme is also possible given AMD's recent portfolio adjustments.

The new RDNA 4 GPUs will bring substantial upgrades, particularly in ray tracing and AI capabilities.

AMD's CEO Lisa Su said: "In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year-over-year as we prepare to transition to our next-gen Radeon GPUs based on our RDNA 4 architecture. In addition to a strong increase in gaming performance, RDNA 4 delivers significantly higher ray tracing performance and adds new AI capabilities. We are on track to launch the first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025."

AMD's RDNA 4 architecture has already been previewed in the SoC for the PS5 Pro, showcasing improved ray tracing performance and PSSR AI Upscaling. While DLSS and XeSS leverage tensor cores for AI processing, AMD has been updating its FSR and Fluid Motion Frames models with AI, promising better and more stable image quality with the new AI capabilities.

The RDNA 4 family will feature two chips, the larger Navi 48 and the smaller Navi 44, equipped with GDDR6 memory with speeds of up to 20 Gbps. The specific SKUs in the lineup include: Navi 48 SKU #1 - R24D-E8, Navi 48 SKU #2 - R24D-E6, Navi 44 SKU #1 - R25D-P8 and Navi 44 SKU #2 - R25D-P4

To remain competitive against new Intel and AMD launches in the mainstream segment, NVIDIA may need to accelerate its mid-range RTX 50 solutions or offer price cuts on existing products.
