Amazon's first colour E-reader has issues

Users moan about Kindle Colorsoft

Amazon's first-ever colour e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, has only just gone on sale, and early adopters are already expressing dissatisfaction.

Some users who received their early orders are returning the device or exchanging it for a new one.

A strip of yellow is marring the bottom of the Kindle Colorsoft display for some users, leading to a rather dismal 2.6-star rating on the Amazon listing page in the US.

The discolouration isn't uniform for all users. According to a Reddit thread, some users also see the discolouration along a vertical edge and the bottom. Others aren't too bothered by the yellowing but have returned their device due to "a corner speckled with dead pixels."

Some Kindle Colorsoft customers are really happy with their new e-reader, and user reviews on Amazon are mixed.

It's unclear whether the discolouration is due to a software or hardware problem, but Amazon says it's aware of the issue and is working on a fix. This could indicate it's just a software glitch, but if the lighting on the screen isn't even, it's likely more due to faulty hardware, and a firmware update may not help.

The Verge says the "discolouration is more obvious in pictures than in real life", and their reviewer wouldn't have noticed the problem if users weren't complaining about it as much.
