Q2 sales up 1 percent

According to iSuppli bean counters, the PC market has started to recover, albeit slowly.

Shipments in Q2 were up 1 percent sequentially, but they are still down 4.3 percent year-on-year. Vendors shipped 67.2 million PCs in Q2, in spite of market concerns and the traditional summer sales slump.

Total shipments rose thanks to notebook sales, while the desktop market is still declining. There's also some optimism for the rest of the year, as iSuppli expects sequential growth in Q3 and Q4, driven by the recovering economy. The launch of Windows 7 is also expected to boost Q4 sales. In spite of the recovery, iSuppli still estimates global PC shipments in 2009 will decline by 4 percent over 2008.

The list of top vendors remains unchanged. HP is still in the lead with 13.4 million units shipped, while Dell and Acer are trailing with 9 and 8.2 million units respectively. Dell's Q2 shipments are down 19.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year, while Acer is up 23.3 percent.
