Micron has
come up with an SSD for notebook and desktop PCs which can manage read speeds of up to 355MB/s and write speeds of up to 215MB/s.

The new RealSSD C300 drive uses the new SATA 6Gbit/s interface instead of the bog standard SATA 3Gbit/s interface. Micron said by supporting the next generation high-speed interface it could get the new SSD to go like the clappers. Native support of SATA 6Gbit/s means that the data path between the host computer and the SSD is twice as fast as the previous interface.

The new C300 SSD uses Micron's established 34nm multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory, which supports the ONFI 2.1 standard to ensure the NAND performance. This means that it can work with the faster SATA 6Gb/s interface.

Micron has promised that the RealSSD C300 SSD will be available in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors, with both drives supporting 128GB and 256GB capacities. It expects to enter production in the first quarter of 2010. No word on price yet but you might like to re-mortgage your house.
