Singapore armed forces enlist iPad

by on27 June 2011

About 8,000 tablets for tech savvy troops
Singapore announced that it would procure some 8,000 iPads for use in her armed forces.

The country’s defence ministry claims it will start issuing iPads to recruits come November in an effort to take advantage of the youth’s love for technology. It seems to us that the scheme has more to do with attracting more recruits than anything else.

On a more serious note, the iPads will be used to distribute information and ease training. They will enable trainees to share and distribute vide ands and photos, send questions to commanders and hold group discussions. The armed forces already announced they are working on specialized apps with several developers.

However, yelling “What’s your major malfunction, numbnuts” in someone’s face and posting it in a discussion board hardly has the same effect on recruits and it really wouldn't make for good cinema.
