New iPad features 1GB of RAM

CPU clock unchanged apparently

According to early benchmarks, Apple’s new iPad features 1GB of memory, but CPU performance was not improved over the last version.

The new iPad scored 756 in Geekbench, which is about the same as a previous generation iPad 2. However, the new A5X processor features a new SGX 543MP4 GPU with four cores, which should boost graphics performance, but only in theory since the new iPad features a hi-res screen and practically has to render four times more pixels than its predecessor.

The CPU part of the A5X seems identical to the A5 and even the clock was unchanged, as 1GHz. We must say we are somewhat surprised by the decision to stick to 1GHz, as the new iPad features a much bigger battery and additional performance would probably come in handy for dealing with the hi-res screen. Obviously Apple believes that the A5X can cope with the additional workload even at 1GHz, which means the GPU is probably better or clocked higher than initially suspected.
