Apple lied in iPad advert
Jobs' Mob in hotwater down under
Apple is in trouble in Australian after the country's competition watchdog decided to sue claiming that Jobs Mob lied to its consumers by calling its new iPad a "4G" tablet. [It is also calling the A5X a quad-core processor in German-speaking markets. Ed]
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced it would file an application in the Federal Court in Melbourne tomorrow seeking "injunctions, pecuniary penalties, corrective advertising and refunds to consumers affected''. Apple's the iPad as having WiFi + 4G, but it cannot access Australia's existing 4G network that uses the 1800MHz frequency. In fact it connects to networks in America that use two different frequencies.
A spokesman for the ACCC declined to comment on the lawsuit, but the watchdog claimed in a statement that advertising the tablet under the "4G'' banner was "misleading'' as it suggested the tablet computer could, "with a SIM card, connect to a 4G mobile data network in Australia, when this is not the case''. Apple fanboys are understood to be demanding that Australians 4G networks be scrapped so that they can conform to what ever Apple says should be running in the country.
“Steve Jobs decides what sort of technology a country can use, not these poxy telcos,” one of them did not say.
