ARM and Intel powered tablets

It has
been reported that Lenovo is working on some interesting Windows RT tablets and judging by the Yoga tablet, the company is serious about the Windows tablet market. Lenovo is one of the first licensees to get Windows RT and it will be among the first to launch Windows 8 tablets.

Interestingly, the company will launch two versions of the tablet – the ARM based Windows RT and Intel based Windows 8 Pro models. Note that the company only had the Intel version on display at this year’s CES.

While the Intel version is expected to be faster, the ARM one should provide better battery life. In fact it is said it will double the 8 hours on the Intel based Yoga, but we’ll see soon enough.

The Yoga that appeared at CES had a 13.1’’ display with 1600x900 resolution. Back then it ran Intel’s Core CPU and could be worked on in laptop or tablet modes, courtesy of the convertible design.

The device supports up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB SSD storage. It is 16.99mm thick and weighs in at 1.47kg.

It is expected that the ARM version will run Tegra 3 but the rest of the specs are still an unknown. Additionally, it’s quite possible that some hardware has changed from the CES version, but even if so, the product itself shouldn’t end up radically different.
