The HP 8 is as its name doesn’t suggest a 7.85-inch IPS tablet with an underwhelming 1024x768 panel and a 2-megapixel rear camera, along with an 0.3-megapixel front facing camera. The tablet comes with Allwinner Quad-Core A31s (1 MB cache), 1 GB memory, 16GB eMMC storage, 3800 mAh battery, microSD slot as well as the unavoidable headphone port.
It measures 200.3 x 136.3 x 7.95 mm and weights 0.69 lb or 313 grams. HP claims 7 hours of battery life and we are not sure of Allwiner CPU can offer some winning performance in this tablet. The resolution is another issue, but then again this might be one of the cheapest brand name tablets on the market, and it's hard to expect more in this segment. We believe that 1280x800 HP Slate7 Extreme powered by a Tegra chip is a better buy at $199, but this is up to you to decide.
The HP8 looks a lot like the first generation iPad mini, which is not a bad thing. It will definitely impress at least Cartman’s mother as it resembles an iPad until you look at the spec sheet. The biggest problem is that with a tablet, the real beauty and power comes from within. (Enter misogynist pun here. Ed)
