Skylake notebooks will appear in September

by on19 August 2015

But Intel is still saying nothing

At IDF 2015, HP, Dell, Lenovo and others are showing us what is the latest and greatest in tablets, notebooks and "two in ones", but Intel seems to be keeping itself on the sidelines.

Every time someone mentions Skylake U, an Intel chap acts like a baby has died or points vaguely over the horizon and says "oh look there is a blimp."

We don't know if Intel has many phones to show but it makes a lot of money on notebooks and some money on tablets and we expect to see something in that space sooner rather than later.

This didn't happen during IDF 2015 keynote, but we did see some notebooks. Nothing too special, just something a bit sexy, like a Skylake U-based Dell XPS 13 successor or a new RealSense camera based tablet.

Intel had a separate big session talking about gaming. Two VPs showed up with two gaming notebooks from EVGA and MSI but with vague details. It is a bit like aliens - we know they exist and they will come soon, but at the moment we are "not ready" for the secret.

Our industry sources have told us that we should see some Skylake U and H based notebooks in September. The sales and availability will happen in later part of September for many customers.

In other words we expect that everyone will introduce their new designs in Berlin at the IFA consumer electronics show that takes off in first days of September 2015.
