AMD FirePro mobile chips go into Dell's new Precision workstations

In new Dell Precision 3510, 7510 and 7710

AMD was quite keen to announce that Dell has chosen AMD's new FirePro mobile workstation graphics cards for its new Dell Precision 3510, 7510 and 7710 series mobile workstation notebooks, including the FirePro W7170M, FirePro W5170M and the AMD FirePro W5130M.

Out of four new Dell Precision workstations, which are a part of the new 17-inch 7710 series, 15-inch 7510 series, 15-inch 5510 series and 15-inch 3510 series, all powered by a wide choice of Intel Core Xeon, Core i7 and Core i5 CPUs, three can be equipped with AMD's new FirePro W5000M series mobile workstation graphics cards.

The top of the line is the FirePro W7170M with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, based on GCN 1.2 Tonga GPU with 2048 Stream Processors and 256-bit memory interface and offering just under 3 TFLOPS of performance. This one will only be available in Dell's top offer Precision 7710 series workstation which can also be equipped with up to 64GB of DDR4 2133 or 32GB of ECC DDR4 memory, Intel Xeon Ex-xxx Z3+ CPU and equipped with 17.3-inch Ultrasharp 3840x2160 IGZO panel.

The AMD FirePro W5170M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, based on GCN 1.0 Cape Verde GPU with 640 Stream Processors and 128-bit memory interface will be available in both the Precision 7710 and the Precision 7510 series. The entry-level AMD FirePro W5130M, based on the same GCN 1.0 Cape Verde Pro GPU with 512 Stream Processors will be available in the Dell Precision 15-inch 3510 series workstation.

According to AMD's Sean Burke, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD Professional Graphics Group, the AMD FirePro W7170, which the top of the line AMD mobile GPU for professional workloads, will be exclusively available with the Dell Precision 7710, making it one of the most powerful workstation notebooks that you can get today.

Starting at US $999 for the 15-inch 3510 series and climbing up to a starting price of US $1,699 for the top of the line 17-inch Precision 7710 series, the new Dell Precision workstation notebooks are expected to become available early in Q4 2015.
