Acer planning new Gaming notebooks next year

Asking for quotes

Notebook maker Acer has been asking suppliers in the Far East for quotes for a new range of gaming notebooks which it is planning for 2016.

According to Digitimes, Acer has sent out an RFO (request for quotation) to notebook ODMs for the range,

It is seen as a sign that Acer will bolster marketing of the product line by increasing shipment volumes and launching more models.

The RFQ is expected to be sent to main Taiwan-based notebook ODMs, including Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron.

Acer has done rather well out of gaming notebook market.  Its Predator brand raised it a lot of cash 2015.  It focused on high product quality to build brand awareness rather than appeal by price.

The RFQ indicates that  Acer wants  large-screen gaming notebooks next year with 18-inch models. This should boost Acer's reputation at the high end of the market.

Acer's global notebook vendor ranking has fallen to fifth place.  This has been because the company has chased higher margins rather than larger shipments for cheaper products.
