MSI fixes Skylake bending with CPU Guard 1151 bracket

by on17 December 2015

Originally developed for overclockers

Due to the recent bending issues with certain Intel Skylake CPUs and aftermarket coolers, MSI has launched a rather simple solution in the form of the new CPU Guard 1151 bracket which should prevent these issues but also be handy to those that decide to delid their CPU.

Previously, it has been noticed that some Intel Skylake CPUs bend when too much pressure has been applied from aftermarkets CPU coolers. Some issues were quite severe and included a broken motherboard socket as well. MSI has released a rather simple solution, called the MSI CPU Guard 1151, which was originally developed as a brace for those overclockers that have decided to delid their CPU but can now also help to prevent bending of the CPU.

This is not the first time MSI has such a solution as it has previously released a Delid Die Guard with certain Z97 Express chipset based motherboards.

According to MSI, the CPU Guard 1151 bracket support Intel Socket 1151 Xeon E3 v5, Core, Pentium and Celeron CPUs but it is unclear if it can be used on motherboards from other manufacturers. MSI also noted that the same brace was used on a recent overclocking event allowing overclockers to delid the CPU and ensure better contact between the CPU and the LN2 pot. Unfortunately, MSI did not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date of the new MSI CPU Guard 1151 bracket.
