Gigabyte expands Aorus brand

New motherboards and graphics cards

Gigabyte is stepping up its independent gaming brand Aorus and planning to release new motherboards and graphics cards.

At the moment, Aorus-branded products include gaming notebooks, mice, keyboards and peripherals. However, word on the street is that Gigabyte wants to strengthen the gaming brand to compete against its competitors such as Asustek’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) and Micro-Star International's (MSI) Gaming series.

Gigabyte will begin selling Aorus branded motherboards in early January 2017, starting with Intel's new 200-series chipsets. The graphics cards will wait until AMD and Nvidia release new high-end GPUs.

Asustek is trying something similar with its ROG brand for top-end gaming products and ROG Strix for the high-end. Asustek flogs motherboards, graphics cards and notebooks, desktops, monitors, keyboards, mice, earphones, and microphones under the ROG brand.

MSI's Gaming series notebooks are predicted to do well this year. The outfit is planning to ship more than 1.2 million gaming notebooks, accounting for around 25 per cent of worldwide gaming notebook shipments of 4.5 million units. Its graphics card shipments are also expected to reach five million units thanks to the strong brand recognition for its Gaming series.
