Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has completed a deal to take over the distribution of Codemasters titles from former publisher THQ, who was acting as the company’s distributor in the Americas.
The deal will see Warner Bros handle distribution, sales, and marketing for the Codemasters’ titles in North America and South America. Codemasters will still handle the publishing and distribution itself in other regions.
According to the deal, Warner Bros. will take care of distribution for the upcoming releases of DIRT: Showdown, F1 2012, as well as other upcoming Codemasters titles. This isn’t the first time that Codemasters has worked with Warner Bros. on distribution. While Codemasters titles have been very popular outside of North and South America, the company is still trying to gain a larger foothold in North and South America with their titles.
The move isn’t surprising, considering the situation at THQ. THQ is facing a difficult financial situation and has been dealing with losses, which have led to studio closures and titles being canceled. Given that situation, this does not leave a lot of money for THQ to act as a distributor for other titles, as funds would appear to be limited at best.
