Electronic Arts’ new Swedish studio is apparently working on a new secret project, according to a number of sources. The Swedish studio (which is known as EA Gothenburg) is said to be focused on next generation Frostbite 2-powered titles. What those might be is anyone’s guess, but there might actually be a clue.
Burnout creator Alex Ward from Criterion studios has played what can only be described as a primary role in each of Criterion’s titles and has been creative developer on Burnout Paradise, as well as managing the development of Burnout 3: Takedown, Black, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Ward actually has the job title of vice president and creative director at Criterion and he serves as EA’s creative director of driving titles.
With Ward involved at EA Gothenburg, we have to assume that it is driving-related and it is using the Frostbite 2 engine. With no announcement of a new Burnout title at E3 and Criterion instead showing a new Need for Speed title that was described as the spiritual successor to Burnout Paradise, could it be that perhaps a new Burnout title is in the making for the next generation platforms using the Frostbite 2 engine? Signs point to a new driving game and one can only hope that this might be the outcome.
