Forza fans should get ready as Forza will return this fall with Forza Horizon 2 which is the sequel to well received Forza Horizon on the Xbox 360. The news actually isn’t that much of a surprise as we already told you that our sources confirmed to us that it would be announced at E3 for a Fall release.
The bigger news is that not only will Forza Horizon 2 be coming for the Xbox One using the same Forza 5 technology that powered the Turn 10 release on Xbox One. Forza Horizon 2 developer Playground Games will only be focused on the Xbox One version of the game, while the Xbox 360 version is being developed by Sumo Digital using the Forza Horizon 1 engine for the Xbox 360.
From what we understand the game play and features will be the same between the two versions, but the Xbox One version will offer additional features like the Drivatar technology from Forza 5, which will not be in the Xbox 360 version from our understanding. Horizon 2 will move the game play to Southern Europe and will have a festival background similar to the first Forza Horizon, which serves a central point or hub if you will for the driving experience in Forza Horizon.
In addition Forza Horizon 2 will feature a new weather system and hundreds of new cars to drive. While not officially confirmed yet, we expect brand find cars to be part of this version of Horizon as that was one of the most popular features of the first Horizon game. While also not officially confirmed yet, we hear whispers that a Limited Edition will be offered with bonuses for those that pre-order.
Beyond hearing that it will be a fall 2014 release, no exact street date for North America or Europe has been given. We do expect that this will be one of the major exclusive titles to be shown by Microsoft at E3 where they will announce specifics surrounding the release of the game. Sources tell us that the game has been in development a long time already and it is expected to be released on time for the fall of 2014.
