Website Eurogamer claims that as many as fifty jobs in the company could be at risk for layoff in the GRID, DiRT, and internal IT teams. The company’s team responsible for the development of the F1 franchise is likely to be unaffected.
While Codemasters is spinning it at as “strategic realignment” driven by market changes, the fact of the matter seems to be that GRID didn’t do that well last time around and DiRT is still unannounced and the reality is that you need revenue and it would seem not enough money is coming in from sales. Still Codemasters claims that none of the titles in development or projects that they are working on have been cancelled as a result of these reductions.
Currently, we know that a new F1 title, which will be the first next generation title for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC is slated for release later this year. Beyond that not much is known about other titles and projects in development. Rumors have indicated that the Early Access release for DiRT 4 was rumored for February, but whispers are suggesting that besides the staff reductions, there could be problems with attempts to secure the car licenses, which is only making things more difficult.
