DMi takes over from Eutechnyx

by on19 January 2015

New NASCAR Next-Gen arrives in 2016

Eutechnyx will no longer be NASCAR's exclusive video game licensee. As of January 1, 2015 DMi is now the exclusive video game and digital entertainment licensee going forward. The begs the question, who is DMi?

DMi is a new development studio headed by Tom Dusnberry and Ed Martin. You might recognize Martin's name as he was with Papyrus, Hasbro Interactive, EA Sports, and most recently managing the business side of Eutechnyx's NASCAR titles. Dusenberry was the founder and president Hasbro Interactive. (Both are apparently big NASCAR fans!) The studio will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina which is in the heart of NASCAR country.

As for what's next, that is where things get a little complicated. Eutechnyx was apparently already hard at work on what will be called NASCAR 15. NASCAR 15 is not really a new game, but rather the NASCAR 14 game with a season update and some bug fixes. It will be digital-only release this Spring for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; but it will not be a DMi game.

The first DMi developed NASCAR title will arrive in 2016 that is already in development for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. This title will be the first next-generation NASCAR title. As part of the deal, DMi has acquired certain NASCAR-related assets from Eutechnyx which includes core art assets such as the tracks and cars. In addition DMi has also acquired some existing NASCAR games including NASCAR Manager which will be re-released at a later date.

So basically Eutechnyx is out and DMi is in. NASCAR 2015 will be released as a digital-only release and will contain 2015 season updates, plus some bug fixes to the NASCAR 2014 code and that will end Eutechnyx's involvement in the franchise. In 2016 we will get a new next-generation NASCAR offering from DMi.
