A lot about Windows 7

As expected and announced earlier, AMD has released its newest Catalyst, version 9.3. In addition to minor performance improvements, the new Catalyst version is all about the upcoming Windows 7 OS. It supports all cards since the times of Radeon 9500, and beside the Windows 7 support and performance improvements under it, it also features some HDMI audio driver additions.

The new Catalyst 9.3 driver brings single unified graphics driver for both Windows 7 and Windows Vista, full WDDM 1.1 support for Radeon HD 4000, 3000 and 2000 series under Windows 7 and delivers gaming performance improvements for the same OS.

The new driver has some performance enhancements for Folding@Home as users with the HD 4000, 3000 and 2000 series cards should see some performance boosts in Folding@Home client thanks to ATI Stream technology.

Windows Vista HDMI audio driver support is now integrated into all packages and will only be installed if the card has an HDMI display connector and there is no 3rd party HDMI audio driver installed.

The new driver also brings a new AMD Display Library (ADL) SDK, and the only noted performance improvement is in Lost Planet: Colonies where you can expect 20 percent gain on HD 4800 series and up to 50 percent on HD 4600, 4500 and 4300 series. AMD does not that performance improvement update refers to several cases where framerates are CPU-limited and the Lost Planet: Colonies is just one example.

The new driver also resolves a bunch of issues under XP, Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. You can find the full release notes here, while the new driver can be found here.
