Too much power

We've learned that despite the fact that Radeon HD 4890 will be more power efficient, at the end with 850MHz clock it will have max power consumption that will come close to 190W. This is of course, the worst-case scenario and if you would put two RV790 chips together, you would be talking about 380W.

The thermal design power for HD 4870 X2 was 286 Watt, while Geforce GTX 295 card powered with two GT200 55nm chips has TDP of 289W.

Pushing the new X2 to 380W would be a bit too much, but there is a chance that some of the partners will reach out and release such a card. Since AMD has quite a few overclocking partners on board, someone might consider doing it.

Remember, Sapphire was the only partner to release HD 4850 X2, even though the design was available for everyone, so there is still some hope.
