Nvidia screws up drivers

by on03 December 2015

AMD off the hook

While Nvidia fanboys were mocking AMD’s Crimson driver cock-up for causing its chips to catch fire, it seems that their own beloved GPU maker was having a driver crisis of its own.

Users have been writing in claiming that Nvidia’s latest drivers for the 860M and 960M mobile GPUs are borked.

While the driver stuff up does not appear to cause chips to catch fire, it has made most games unplayable.

Recent and popular games like Fallout 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 which are expected to be properly optimised in the drivers after release are facing constant frame rate drops, crashes and visual bugs.

Some users are finding that Windows is refusing to recognise the GPU and use the on-board GPU instead. This means only causing them to do a full on reinstallation of their drivers.

So far there are 50 pages of complaints on the official forums but Nvidia has not admitted that there is a problem yet.

You can’t even get away with using older drivers. Newer games have driver checks in place which demand that you update before you play.
