Chinese GPU maker expands into foreign markets

Colorful, which is currently the largest graphics card vendor in the China, is about to spread its wings.

The outfit which flogs four million units wants to enter Southeast Asia's graphics card market and expects the entry to boost its graphics card shipments to five million units in 2016.

If it pulls that off it will be on an equal footing to Asustek Computer and become a threat to Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte.

Apparently Colorful to enter Southeast Asia markets such as Thailand and Vietnam and is looking at Eastern Europe and India for its second wave.

Colorful uses Nvidia's reference boards and performance, quality and design differences between brand vendor's products are small. Colorful’s high end is based on a GTX Titan X-based range which it is flogging to enterprise or professional clients. Its GTX 970/980/980Ti starts at $152.

But Colorful pushed quickly into China's graphics card market, lately it has been expanding its reach into China's rural areas and has established stores to help promote and sell graphics cards.

More than half of Colorful’s sales come from the traditional retail channel and a fifth from e-commerce websites and a third from Internet cafes where it peddles cheap and cheerful cards
