AMD releases promised Software Adrenalin 23.2.1 driver update

Finally some love for older Radeon graphics cards

AMD has released its promised Software Adrenalin graphics driver update, which brings optimizations for Forspoken game, other updates, as well as plenty of other game optimizations, but, more importantly, those optimizations are aimed at Radeon RX 6000 and RX 5000 series cards, rather than just the latest RX 7000 series.

In case you missed it, it has been a while since AMD issued any driver update that brings performance improvements for older graphics cards, as all driver updates in the last two months were focused on the RX 7000 series. Luckily, earlier last week, Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions at AMD, confirmed this new driver so hopefully, we won't wait for the next one for too long.

According to the release notes, the new Software Adrenalin 23.2.1 driver update adds support for Forspoken game, boosting performance on the Radeon RX 6950XT by up to 7 percent; adds support for Dead Space, IREE complier using MLIR interface on Vulkan as well as other Vulkan extensions; adds pre-filter toggle, pre-analysis feature and CAML technology streaming options on Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs; brings a new version of the AMD Link; and boosts general performance with AMD Software.

When it comes to specific game optimizations, AMD has a rather extensive list which includes Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Sniper Elite 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, F1 2022, DOOM Eternal, Borderlands 3, and, of course, Hogwarts Legacy, with a performance increase of anywhere between 3 and 19 percent, depending on the game.

The new driver also fixes several issues, including issues with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, performance issues with SpaceEngine, Fortnite, and Youtube, as well as various other issues with games Hogwarts Legacy, Battlefield 4, Sea of Thieves, Baldur Gate 3, and others.

You can find more information as well as download the new driver over at AMD's support page.
