What the first Torch should have been
Our sources in the land of RIM have let us know what the specs are going to look like for codename Jennings, or the Torch2 9810, if you will. From what our sources are telling us one thing is for sure:  if the first Torch 9800 would have arrived with these specs, the reviews would have been a lot different for this BlackBerry slider.

The 9810 will feature a 1.2GHz processor which we believe is likely a Snapdragon, according to those claiming to be in the know. Of course, it will run BlackBerry OS 6 and we believe that when it is released it will actually ship with version 6.1 or maybe even 6.2; no indication yet if it will support BlackBerry OS 7. It has 768MB of Ram and 8GB of flash with MicroSD HC support under the battery door, which will handle cards up to 32GB in size. It will use a Transmissive TFT LCD with a 3.17” active area, with a VGA resolution of 640x480 with support for 16 million colors.

As for the bells and whistles, it will include a 5 megapixel camera with HD recording at 1280x720 or 720p recording. It also includes auto focus, face detection, image stabilization, scene mode, geotagging mode and a 4X digital zoom. It includes support for Windows 10 DRM for both auto and video. It will be powered by a new 1270 mAh Lithium-Ion Battery, which is new. Bluetooth 2.1 support is native and, of course, GPS support is included. It includes accelerometer, magnetometer, and proximity sensors.

As for connectivity, the 9810 will be GSM/UMTS/GPRS/Edge compatible. In addition, the Wi-Fi will support b/g/n and is Cisco CCX certified as well as including Mobile Hot Spot support. Mobile Hot Spot, of course, will be up to the carrier to enable. It supports both WPA and WPA2 (personal & enterprise) encryption modes.

We hear that in North America we can expect the 9810 to arrive for AT&T in very late June or July, with July seeming to be the more likely reality. The device is still undergoing additional certification and carrier acceptance testing, according to our sources. Once officially announced we are told to expect other carriers to come on board for launch of the 9810.
