In a recent interview with Allthingsd.com, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos finally dismissed rumours of a possible Amazon smartphone.
When asked about the possibility of extending Amazon’s product roadmap to new devices, Bezos said that he could not talk about the future roadmap, but that no changes should be expected this year. However, he hinted that new devices are in the pipeline for next year, but that’s about it.
So, there is no Amazon phone, at least not yet. Of course, Bezos could not go into specifics, but it seems the Amazon phone is a no-go for the time being.
This is not necessarily a bad thing. The phone market is already overcrowded, and with the new iPhone 5 and WP8 devices on the way, things will only get worse in the short term. Perhaps Amazon is simply taking the wait-and-see approach. The latest Kindle Fire HD tablets are proof that Amazon is taking the hardware side of things very seriously and it simply does not need the risk involved in launching a potential flop-phone. At least not yet.
