HTC forced to delay One rollout due to component shortages

HTC just can’t catch a break. The company has confirmed that it is delaying the HTC One rollout due to component shortages. Rumours of a delay emerged last week, but they were not confirmed.

The Wall Street Journal reports that several retail disties and telecom operators have already been notified of the shipment delays. Best Buy confirmed that the date has already been pushed back. Originally it expected to have the HTC One in stock around the third week of March, or now.

HTC execs said the delay was caused by shortages of certain components, including metal casings and camera parts. HTC Chief Marketing Officer Benjamin Ho said the company is tirelessly working with its channel partners to fulfil as many orders as possible.

"We will start fulfilling pre-orders by the end of March in certain markets and will roll out to more markets as we approach April," he said.

It doesn’t look like much of a delay, three to four weeks at most, but HTC simply cannot afford it at this point. Had the HTC One gone on sale in March or early April, it would have had a nice lead over the Galaxy S4. However, now it seems as if they will go on sale at about the same time.
