Samsung to go 64-bit with next-gen smartphones

by on12 September 2013

Apple still got there first

The Head of Samsung Mobile Communications, JK Shin, said that Samsung's next-generation smartphones will also feature a 64-bit support, according to a report from Korea Times.

The response obviously comes as a response to Apple's recent launch of the new flagship iPhone 5S, A7 64-bit chip and iOS 7 64-bit OS. While Samsung is still months away from releasing any new flagship smartphones. The 64-bit support for Samsung will most likely come in the form of earlier detailed ARM Cortex-A57 which is also a 64-bit design but at the end of the day, Apple managed to beat it to market.

Samsung's exec noted that such a device with such a chip would "not come in the shortest time" but "our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing capability". Most likely guess is that Samsung will bring it with its future Galaxy S5, Note 4 or other future flagship smartphones.
