Xiaomi wants to be the Apple of China and the company has done a great job getting everyone's attention with competitively priced phones and its first tablet. They make good products and they price them to meet the demands of Chinese consumers, how want power at a discount.
Last week we mentioned that Xiaomi managed to ship 26 million phones in the first half of the year, quadrupling its shipments year-on-year. The magic potion involves good quality, good components and great performance, all at the right price. Its new flagship, the Mi 4, is launching on the 22nd of June.
Xiaomi plans to expand to new markets including Brazil and Russia, two gigantic and not so saturated markets. It is really hard to make a big impact in North America and Western Europe, but we are sure that Xiaomi has these markets on its mind for future expansion. They need to lure telecom providers in order to make serious inroads in these markets.
The Mi 4 spec is impressive. It has a 5.2-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 801 or 805 SoC with 3GB of RAM and 16 GB memory. It should include a 14-megapixel camera, too, and the device will support LTE despite the fact that most consumers in China don’t have access to this mobile broadband standard.
Judging by the design of the Mii Pad tablet, the Mi 4 phone has the potential to have look like a champ and probably much resemble some phones on a market, namely HTC’s brushed aluminium designs. The teaser suggests that the phone might feature a brushed aluminium finish.
