For those who came in late, the Tame Apple Press wrote off the headphone jack when Apple abandoned it in favour of expensive and less useful wireless earbuds.
The move hacked off many users who would have to pay for expensive earphones which they might lose. Wireless earbuds are prone to running out of battery and sound interference and loss.
However Samsung, LG, and a couple of other companies like OnePlus have remained resolute in their inclusion of a headphone jack, but that was far from a certainty for the next Galaxy S iteration.
This is because the phone was going to rival the iPhone X, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and Google's Pixel 2 which copied Apple. So Samsung could have dumped the analogue audio output, but it seems to have opted against it.
USB-C earphones are all still either bad or expensive, and phones that retain compatibility with 3.5mm connectors remain profoundly useful to consumers that aren't yet convinced by Bluetooth.
