Built around a 6.3-inch curved IPS panel with 2280x1080 resolution, the Honor Play measures 157.9x74.3x7.5mm and weighs 176g. The heart of the Honor Play is Huawei's Kirin 970 SoC, with four Cortex-A72 and four Cortex-A64 cores, paired up with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Huawei also included its own GPU Turbo technology, which should boost the GPU performance by up to 30 percent when gaming.
The rest of the features include support for 7.1-channel audio, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port, microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack, something that has become rare on smartphones these days. It also comes with a 3,750mAh battery, which should keep it alive for around 4.5 hours of gaming or around 1.5 days of mixed usage.
When it comes to camera setup, you get a dual rear camera setup with 16- and 2-megapixel sensors as well as a 16-megapixel front camera.
The Honor Play will be available in black, blue and pink color options as well as two special Player Edition options, featuring a red or black design.
According to details provided by Honor, the Honor Play will be officially available in Europe, the Middle East, Russia, India and the Asia Pacific region, starting at €329 for the 4GB/64GB version while the special Player Edition will go for €20 more, €349.
We had a chance to check it out at the IFA 2018 show and it does not look half bad for a mid-range smartphone. Of course, we will have to check out the GPU Turbo and other features a bit closer to see if the Honor Play is living up to its claims, but a Kirin 970-powered smartphone for €329 isn't too bad.
