Qualcomm’s said that 7nm integrated 5G SoC will play a significant role in the popularization of the next generation 5G network. Qualcomm said that it plans to have the Snapdragon 7 series with integrated 5G launch in Q4 2019 and that several vendors are working on those designs.
Now the company said today that the next 7th generation SoC is also 7nm and packs a 5G X55 like modem with both SA, Non-SA and even millimeter-wave support. mmWaves will enable incredible speeds and unleash the full potential of the 5G.
Cristiano Amon said that in his keynote at IFA 2019 today. And Kedar Kondap, VP of product management Snapdragon SoCs, confirmed that twelve leading global OEMs and brands are on board with the integrated Snapdragon 7 series 5G.
Multiple OEMs by end of 2019
Oppo, realme, Redmi, Vivo, Motorola, HMD Global, the home of Nokia smartphones, and LG Electronics plan to use this new integrated Snapdragon 7 Series 5G mobile platform in their future 5G mobile devices. To be a bit more precise, some of these devices will come shortly after the announcement and most likely before the end of 2019.
So you can see that China-based vendors take 5G very seriously as there are supposed to be 2.2 billion people that live in countries that have launched, or are about to launch, 5G. The Chinese population alone exceeds 1.4 billion potential customers.
The 7th generation SoC with all integrated 5G modem began sampling to customers in the second quarter of 2019, and, miraculously, Qualcomm kept it secret for such a long time. This SoC was announced without any specs in late Q1 at the Mobile World Congress 2019.
Cristiano, as a part of his IFA 2019 keynote, confirmed that the company will be ready to reveal more at the Snapdragon Technology Summit 2019 at the very end of this year.
Rolling future Snapdragon 8, 7 and even the 6 all with 5G by 2020 shows a commitment to faster than even deployment and popularization of what's believed to be game changing 5G technology.
