Netbooks and MIDs

Nvidia was smart enough to start talking about an x86 chip and the fact that it might do it, at the time of Cebit, which is usually a very busy time for news guys.

Mr O’hara, Nvidia’s Vice president of investor relations have told investors at Morgan Stanley Technology Conference [Bank of America you mean? E.D ] that Nvidia is considering the development of integrated chip based on x86 architecture.

Nvidia would use it for MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices) and netbooks and Tegra is definitely a good indication of what Nvidia had in mind. Tegra is Nvidia’s MID platform where Nvidia provides core logic and graphics and ARM provides a CPU and this platform can run Android or Windows mobile, CE versions.

Since Nvidia always wants more and as Jon Peddie research said, integrated chipset marketing will be gone by 2012, Nvidia has to do something. The big problem remains, how shall Nvidia get the x86 license and we are very sure that despite the fact Nvidia might have a license via Stexar, but this certainly won’t go without a fight.

We will try to talk with both parties about it.
