Automatic overclocking

We are quite sure that Q2 2010 scheduled six core Gulftown CPU will have to fit to 130W TDP as this is usually the highest TDP Intel chooses to tolerate.

Of course, we are talking about the high end six core 32nm CPU with twelve threads, and in 32nm could probably have similar clock speeds to Core i7 CPUs, and despite two more cores, maintain a similar TDP.

Since the basic concept behind the Westmere generation are slightly enhanced Nehalem ideas, Gulftown will support Turbo boost, automatic overclocking technology, that will give you some more speed. This usually overclocks only a single core, while the rest stay at their default clock.

The usual buyers of such an Extreme Edition CPU probably priced at $999 will want to take control and overclock this CPU on their own but we are sure that there will be many people excited about six cores, and if only more cores would mean better performance.

In the server world, we can see a huge opportunity for six core Westmere but in Gaming and enthusiast, it will be there and it will sell, but it won't necessarily be faster than quad core, similarly clocked Core i7.
