The new Skylake processor now works at 4.0GHz with four cores and eight threads, and it uses DDR4 or DDR3L memory. When it comes to DDR4 speeds, Skylake-S uses DDR4 at up to 2133MHz, while the DDR3L works up to 1600 MHz.  

The maximum CPU frequency with Turbo Boost is 4.2GHz which is some 200 MHz slower than the Core i7 4790K processor. It will be interesting to see how the Core i7 6700K benchmark against this rather old Haswell refresh processor. 

Sklylake-S has the same 8MB cache and the GPU works up to 1150Mhz. The TDP of the processor is 95W and the CPU supports Intel VT-D, AES-NI, and Intel device protection with boot guard. Business users will get another SKU that will also support Intel SIPP, vPro and Intel TXT technology.

Intel has recently launched its first Broadwell-S processor now known as Core i7 5775C, and this 65W TDP processor works at 3.3GHz, but with Turbo all four cores and eight treads can get to 3.7GHz. This is a 6MB cache processor that will coexist with the Core i7 6700 and Core i7 6700K. The launch happened a month ago at Computex and was a real puzzle, as it sits in another market segment and still cost as slightly more than the faster Core i7 4790K processor.

We expect to see Core i7 6700K latest at IDF 2015 that starts on August 18th, if not a few days earlier at another tradeshow that starts on August 5th in Cologne.
