This is not 10nm, this is a third generation of 14-nanometer processors, codenamed Kaby Lake, that uses FinFET technology this time around, and a final confirmation that Intel's traditional tick-tock model has stopped, at least for this generation.



Navin showed an Intel Apollo Lake 14nm processor for entry-level and mobile computers based on new Atom x86 architecture, codenamed Goldmont. It targets the entry-level / value PC market, and we can call it "Atom market" even if Intel doesn’t like that brand name anymore. The chips are shipping to customers later this quarter with full systems expected to ship before the end of the year.

It was interesting that Intel announced Kaby Lake and committed to ship this year, as this announcement was already shown by both MSI and Asus at their respective press events. Nevin said that there are 400 design wins in the pipe which sounds like quite a handful for an entry-level market.
