Victor Peng is now in charge

Xilinx has named Chief Operating Officer Victor Peng as its new CEO and President from 28 January.

Peng worked at Xilinx since 2008. Before joining Xilinx, Peng served as corporate vice president of the graphics products group (GPG) silicon engineering at AMD.

He served as a key leader in AMD's central silicon engineering team supporting graphics, console game products, CPU chipset and consumer business units. Xilinx is creating different products and focuses on all programmable semiconductor products, including FPGAs, SoCs, MPSoCs, RFSoCs, and 3D ICs.

Dennis Segers, chairman of the board of Xilinx, said: "Peng is unique in his ability to translate vision and strategy into world-class execution and has an incredible ability to inspire and lead the transformation. He has been the architect of Xilinx’s innovations for the past decade and will move the company forward with the speed required to capitalise on the opportunities in front of us.

"Victor is a proven leader with exceptional business acumen and a deep, unwavering dedication to customers. The BOD is thrilled to appoint Victor CEO as the company enters its next chapter of expanded innovation and growth.”

Peng served as Chief Operating Officer and was appointed as a member of the board of directors in October 2017.

Xilinx enables applications that are software-defined and hardware optimised – powering industry advancements in Cloud Computing, 5G Wireless, Embedded Vision, and Industrial IoT. Many big names are using Xilinx for testing its products before they get to the hardware and since Xilinx covered the most dynamic parts of the market, it has a big chance to grow.

Ex AMDer responsible for server PR and now ex-Director of PR at Qualcomm, Tara Sims has joined Xilinx to run the communication department. She did a great job transforming the technical and conventional PR for Qualcomm and brought a lot of Snapdragon related coverage during its time there. We have no doubts that she can do well with her next endeavour. Sims knows startups, and she has a unique knowledge of the big players on the server side of the business. She was intimately involved in Qualcomm’s Centriq server chip coverage.

Xilinx today is one of these companies that get a tiny spotlight as the press spends time dissecting Nvidia and AMD’s every single move.
