We already had a hunch that Intel's 40th anniversary Core i7-8086K could be an impressive overclocker and Roman "Der8auer" Hartung has already delidded it and overclocked it to an impressive 7,243MHz under LN2.

We weren't surprised that Roman was going to get his hands on one of those 40th anniversary CPUs and try to delid it, since he is behind one of the most popular delid tools, and although we suspected that the CPU could do well in overclocking, a result of 7,243MHz is quite impressive.

The CPU was overclocked at Computex 2018 show in Taiwan last week at G.Skill's booth and done on Asus Z370 ROG Maximum Apex motherboard. The CPU was cooled under LN2 at a temperature hitting -185 degrees Celsius. Der8auer made a nice video of the overclocking feat and you can check out the validation over link here.

In the meantime, Intel's Core i7-8086K Limited Edition has become available and sells for US $424.99 at, £379.99 over at, and €429,94 in Europe at

Hopefully, the 7,243MHz was just the start and we will see even higher overclocking results from this 40th-anniversary edition CPU.
