Intel was keen to kick off the announcement by pointing out that the flagship Intel Core i9-13980HX is both the first 24-core processor for laptops as well as world's fastest mobile processor. As noted, the lineup includes a wide range of HX-, H-, P-, and U-series SKUs. Intel also announced the new Intel Evo laptop specification, but we'll talk about that a bit later.
The new Intel 13th gen Core mobile processor Intel has cleverly announced its 13th Gen Intel Core lineup, never mentioning Raptor Lake architecture, as some SKUs in the lineup, as rumored earlier, might be based on older Alder Lake architecture.
“The 13th Gen Intel Core mobile processor family delivers unrivaled, scalable performance for leadership platforms across all laptop segments,” said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group at Intel. “With our industry-leading technologies and unmatched global partner ecosystem, people can expect a high-caliber mobile experience in new and unique form factors – so they can game or create from anywhere.”
Intel 13th gen Core HX-series for gamers, creators, and mobile workstations
As noted, the lineup kicks off with the HX-series, led by the Core i9-13980HX, a 24-core/32-thread SKU with 8 Performance and 16 Efficient cores, 36MB of L3 cache, maximum Turbo frequency of 5.6GHz and 4.0GHz, for P- and E-cores. The rest of the Core i9 series include the Core i9-13950HX, and the Core i9-13900HX, both 24-core/32-thread SKUs with slightly lower Turbo frequencies.
The Core i7 HX-series is led by the Core i7-13850HX, a 20-core/28-thread SKU with 8P and 12E cores. The rest of the lineup are the 16-core/24-thread (8P+8E) Core i7-13700HX, and the 14-core/20-thread (6P+8E) Core i7-13650HX.
The Core i5 HX-series lineup has two 14-core/20-thread (6P+8E) SKUs, the Core i5-13600HX and the Core i5-13500HX, as well as the 10-core/16-thread (6P+4E) Core i5-13450HX.
Interestingly, the entire lineup is rated at 55W TDP with 157W maximum Turbo power.
The H-series for 45W laptops and P-series/U-series for thin-and-light 28W/15W laptops
The Core H-series mobile processors will obviously be the bread and butter of Intel's 13th gen Core mobile lineup, with a total of 11 SKUs, peaking at 14-core/20-thread configuration, with 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores. The flagship of the H-series is the Core i9-13900HK, a 14-core/20-thread SKU peaking at 5.4GHz max P-core and 4.1GHz max E-core clock, and 24MB of L3 cache. These have 45W standard and 115W max turbo power rating.
The top Core i7 H-series SKU is the Core i7-13800H, also a 14-core/20-thread SKU, peaking at 5.2GHz max P-core and 4.0GHz max E-core frequency, and the same 24MB of L3 cache. The Core i7 lineup also includes a rather interesting Core i7-13620H SKU, a 10-core/16-thread (6P+4E) SKU, working at 4.9GHz max P-core and 3.6GHz max E-core frequency, and the same 24MB of L3 cache. These also have the same 45W and 115W max turbo power rating.
The Core i5 H-series lineup mostly sticks to 12-core/16-thread (4P+8E) configuration, 18MB of L3 cache, and slightly lower max turbo power, peaking at 95W.
Surprisingly, the 13th gen Core P-series include a total of four SKUs, two Core i7 and two Core i5 SKUs. This means that the lineup in the so-called performance thin and light laptop market will be pretty easy to differentiate. All four have the 28W base and 64W max Turbo power.
The P-series lineup includes the 14-core/20-thread (6P+8E) Core i7-1370P and the 12-core/16-thread (4P+8E) Core i7-1360P, as well as the two 12-core/16-thread (4P+8E) Core i5 SKUs, the Core i5-1350P and the Core i5-1340P.
Unlike the P-series, the 13th gen Core U-series for thin and light laptops will have plenty of SKUs, a total of eight SKUs. These include two Core i7 SKUs, the 10-core/12-thread (2P+8E) Core i7-1365U and the Core i7-1355U, three Core i5 SKUs, all also 10-core/12-thread SKUs, and two Core i3 SKUs, the 6-core/8-thread (2P+4E) Core i3-1315U and the 5-core/6-thread (1P+4E) Core i3-1305U.
There is also a single Intel Processor U300, a 5-core/6-thread (1P+4E) SKU.
The rest of the features brought by 13th Gen Core mobile CPUs will include Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+), Bluetooth LE Audio and Bluetooth 5.2, Thunderbolt 4 support, as well as overclocking capabilities on HX- and HK-series SKUs.
Intel claims we will see more than 300 unique designs for H-, P-, and U-series CPUs, as well as over 60 HX designs, from the likes of Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Razer, Republic of Gamers, Samsung and others.
