Apple announces new 15-inch MacBook Air

by on05 June 2023

New screen size and M2 SoC

Apple has now officially, and finally, announced the MacBook Air in 15-inch size. In addition to the new Retina screen, the 15-inch MacBook Air also got the M2 chip, the same one from the 13-inch model.

Apple is quite proud of the 15.3-inch Liquid Retina screen on the MacBook Air, and it has 500nits of brightness and can show 1 billion colors. Apple is claiming the world's thinnest laptop which might be true as it is a mere 11.5mm thick. It also weighs 1,496g. As expected, Apple did not stop with claims there and said the new 15-inch MacBook Air is 12x faster than Intel-based MacBook Air, and 2x faster than "the best selling" 15-inch laptop with Core i7 processor.

Unfortunately, Apple decided to equip the 15-inch MacBook Air with the same M2 SoC as the 13-inch model, featuring 8 CPU cores, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core NPU. It will also pack 8GB to 24GB of unified memory, and up to 2TB of storage. The rest of the specifications include two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, Touch ID, Magic Keyboard, six speakers, three microphones, a 1080p webcam, and a MagSafe charging port. Speaking of charging, Apple says the full charge should last for up to 18 hours.

The 15-inch MacBook Air will be available in midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver color options, and starts at $1,299. It will ship next week and pre-orders are open now.
