Quirky battery choice

Lenovo has taken the wraps off its 14-inch ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 mobile workstation. Designed for busy professionals who demand high performance in a portable package, this laptop weighs a mere 1.31kg

Under the hood, it boasts an AMD Ryzen Pro 8040 HS-Series processor, with Ryzen AI and Radeon integrated graphics.

The ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 can be configured with up to 96GB of DDR5 RAM and a spacious 2TB PCIe 4x4 Performance SSD.

When it comes to the display, the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 offers you the freedom to choose. Whether you prefer a touch or non-touch display, the 2.8K OLED (2880x1800) or the WUXGA FHD+ (1920x1200) screen, Lenovo has you covered. And with the 3M Optical Film solution, you can enjoy a brighter display while conserving power.

The laptop is well-equipped with various ports, including two USB-A, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 TDMS, a mic/headphone jack, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet, and an optional Smart Card Reader. Additionally, there’s a Nano SIM2 slot. Choose between a 5MP camera with a privacy shutter or a 5MP RGB + IR webcam.

The device supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. You can even opt for 5G WWAN and NFC connectivity.

Now, let’s talk about the battery. Lenovo has equipped this powerful workhorse with a 39.3Whr battery, a modest choice that might raise some eyebrows. But fear not—it’s a user-replaceable model. If you need more endurance, you can upgrade to a more substantial 52.5Whr battery, putting the control of your device's endurance in your hands.

The ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 ships with Windows 11 Pro and is certified for Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise, and Fedora. You can also choose between a backlit or non-backlit keyboard.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 mobile workstation will be available in late May 2024. While the anticipated starting price is $1,379, remember to factor in the battery upgrade if you want a laptop that doesn’t constantly need to be plugged in.
