Defense giant L-3 Communications warned employees that hackers were targeting the outfit using information on the SecurID keyfob system stolen from a publicly known breach at RSA Security.
It is the second hacker target linked to the RSA breach. The other one was Lockheed Martin on Friday. According to an email leaked to Wired, L-3 Communications was targeted with penetration attacks aimed at getting information.
L-3 did not say that the hackers were successful in their attack, or how L-3 determined SecurID was involved. L-3 Communications is the eighth biggest federal-government contractors. The outfit provides command-and-control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C3ISR) technology to the Pentagon and intelligence agencies.
RSA said it had been the victim of an “extremely sophisticated” hack in which intruders succeeded in stealing information related to the company’s SecurID two-factor authentication products. Now it seems that its keys are being used by someone.
An unnamed foreign power was said to be behind the Lockheed attack.
