Wi-Fi only models for now

Earlier this month, Motorola listed its second-generation Xoom 2 "Xyboard" tablets up for pre-order on its site, with an expected shipping date of January 18th. Now, the company is preparing to take the leashes off its new Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablets and release them for purchase starting today.

Of course, with any Motorola Mobility product release, there is always a catch. The company is releasing its Wi-Fi only editions of the Xyboard tablets for now, with the Verizon 4G LTE models following soon. Hopefully we won't be waiting as long as the Motorola Xoom 4G LTE delay that took nearly 8 months to get the ball rolling.

The Xyboard 8.2-inch 16GB model is listed at $399.99, with the 32GB going for $499.99. Additionally, the larger Xyboard 10.1-inch 16GB model is listed at $499.99, with the 32GB version going for $599.99. All of these Wi-Fi only models come in at around $200 less than what Verizon is charging off-contract for the LTE versions.

Not surprisingly, the company has also delayed its users into waiting for an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for these devices as well. No exact details on when that will come either.
